SkyTrak ST MAX

Our view

The SkyTrak ST MAX is the current flagship of the SkyTrak range, replacing the SkyTrak+ as the top model. The core technology is the same combination of dual Doppler radar and photometric camera that made the SkyTrak+ well regarded — the ST MAX adds GOLFTEC speed training, dual USB-C ports, and a new internal architecture for improved stability.

The accuracy story is strong. Independent testing has compared SkyTrak results favourably against TrackMan, and the dual technology approach — radar for club data, camera for ball data — delivers a complete picture of what happens at impact. The addition of club face angle and club path gives golfers meaningful data to work on shot shape and consistency.

Speed Training powered by GOLFTEC is the headline new feature. It provides guided drills for building swing speed both with and without a ball — something you would previously have needed a SuperSpeed or similar programme for separately. For golfers who want to add distance, having structured speed training built into the same device is genuinely useful.

The dual USB-C ports fix a real frustration from the SkyTrak+, where a single port meant you had to choose between charging and data transfer. Small detail, large quality-of-life improvement for anyone using the device daily.

The honest limitations: angle of attack is still not measured, which is a notable omission at this price when devices costing considerably less include it. Subscription is required for course play — SkyTrak offers multiple tiers from around £130 to £500 per year depending on what you want access to. Budget for this before comparing the headline hardware price against alternatives where course access is included.

At around £2,495, the ST MAX sits above the FlightScope Mevo Gen2 (£1,199, no subscription, 8 courses included) and the SkyTrak+ (still available at £1,695 at some retailers). The ST MAX earns its premium for golfers who will actively use the GOLFTEC speed training and who want the quality-of-life improvements of dual USB-C and the updated internal design.

Pros

  • Dual radar plus photometric camera — accurate club and ball data combined
  • GOLFTEC speed training exclusive to ST MAX — structured drills with and without a ball
  • Dual USB-C — charge and transfer simultaneously, fixes SkyTrak+ flaw
  • Strong independently verified accuracy compared to TrackMan
  • Club data included — face angle, club path, club head speed, smash factor, face to path
  • Works indoors and outdoors on mats
  • Skills Assessments, Bag Mapping, and Wedge Matrix included
  • Premium build quality and charcoal finish
  • 14-day trial membership included

Cons

  • Around £2,495 — significantly more than FlightScope Mevo Gen2 at £1,199
  • Angle of attack not measured — notable omission at this price, cheaper devices include it
  • Subscription required for course play — multiple tiers, budget separately
  • Same core accuracy as SkyTrak+ which is available at lower prices while stock lasts
  • No built-in screen — requires phone, tablet, or PC for data display
  • Course play subscriptions add meaningful ongoing cost

The ST MAX suits serious golfers building a dedicated home simulator who want the most current SkyTrak technology and will actively use the GOLFTEC speed training as part of their practice routine. The dual USB-C fix and improved internal design make it a better daily use device than the SkyTrak+. For golfers who want SkyTrak accuracy without the ST MAX premium, the SkyTrak+ remains available at lower prices while stock lasts and delivers the same core performance.

The ST MAX hardware gives you ball and club data immediately. Course play requires a SkyTrak membership — tiers range from around £130 to £500 per year depending on which courses and software you want. E6 and GSPro are available as additional integrations at further cost. Factor these into your total investment before comparing against alternatives where course access is included in the hardware price.
