Our view
The SkyCaddie LX2 occupies a specific and defensible position in the GPS watch market. It is not a smartwatch that also plays golf — there is no heart rate monitor, no music, no activity tracking beyond a step counter. It is a golf GPS watch designed to do one thing exceptionally well: give you accurate yardages you can trust.
The differentiator is the course mapping methodology. Where most GPS watch manufacturers build course maps from satellite imagery and aerial data, SkyGolf physically walks each course to ground-verify their maps with sub-metre precision. Whether that difference is material in practice depends on the course — at well-mapped venues you will not notice it. At courses with unusual green shapes, obscured sight lines, or complex hazard positions, ground-verified data can make a meaningful difference to the accuracy of what you see on your wrist.
The JDI display is worth noting specifically for UK golfers. Most GPS watch displays struggle in bright sunshine — a problem that sounds trivial until you are trying to read your yardage on a clear summer day. The JDI technology is designed around sunlight readability and it shows. The 1.28-inch screen is readable in conditions where other displays wash out.
The membership structure needs to be understood before buying. The £119.95 purchase price includes the PAR plan, which gives you front, centre, and back distances worldwide. That is functional for basic yardages. Most golfers will find they want more — IntelliGreen for green shape and distances to any pin position, hazard distances, scoring, and the mobile app. Those features require Birdie at £29.95 per year minimum, or Eagle at £39.95 per year for the full feature set including IntelliGreen.
At £119.95 plus Eagle membership the three-year total is around £240. The Garmin Approach S12 sits at a similar price point with free course updates but fewer course mapping features. The Shot Scope V5 adds automatic shot tracking. The LX2 wins on course map quality and display readability. What it lacks is the fitness and smartwatch features that Garmin in particular does well.

Who is this for?

| Handicap 21–28 | High handicap | Good |
| Handicap 28+ | Beginner | Good |
Golfers who want the most accurate course information available in a wrist device and are happy to pay for it via the membership model. A strong choice for golfers who play a variety of courses and want to trust the maps on all of them, and for golfers who struggle to read their current GPS watch in bright conditions. Golfers who want automatic shot tracking, health monitoring, or smartwatch features should look at the Garmin Approach S70 or Shot Scope V5 instead.
