Garmin MARQ Golfer (Gen 2)

Our view

The MARQ Golfer Gen 2 is one of the finest watches Garmin makes and the golf functionality is genuinely excellent — Virtual Caddie, AutoShot, CT10 sensors in the box, 43,000+ courses. The honest question is whether £1,999.99 is justified when the Approach S70 at £519.99 delivers very similar golf performance. The answer is yes only if the materials matter to you. Grade 5 titanium, domed sapphire crystal and the French Jacquard strap are luxury finishing that the S70 cannot match. This is not a better golf watch than the S70 in terms of on-course data — it is a better watch that also happens to be an excellent golf device. For golfers who want the best golf GPS available without the luxury premium, the S70 is the stronger recommendation at a quarter of the price.

Pros

  • The most premium GPS golf watch available — sapphire crystal and Grade 5 titanium are genuine luxury materials that outclass every competitor
  • CT10 club sensors included — a £199.99 accessory bundled at no extra cost
  • 10 ATM water rating is class-leading for a golf watch
  • Multi-band GPS with SatIQ is the most accurate GPS positioning available on any wrist device
  • Beyond golf — full expedition and outdoor capability including topographic maps and climbing features
  • The strongest health monitoring suite of any Garmin golf watch

Cons

  • At £1,999.99 it costs nearly 4x the Approach S70 which has very similar golf functionality
  • Golf-specific features are not meaningfully better than the S70 — the premium is for materials, build quality and lifestyle positioning
  • Green Contour Data still requires Garmin Golf membership
  • Security updates ended October 2024 — worth monitoring for a £2,000 device
  • 87g — noticeably heavier than dedicated golf watches
  • Garmin proprietary magnetic charger — not USB-C at this price

Golfers who want a luxury watch they can wear everywhere — boardroom to fairway — and are willing to pay a significant premium for Grade 5 titanium, sapphire crystal and premium finishing. The MARQ Golfer is not primarily a golf device — it is a luxury lifestyle watch with world-class golf capabilities. The ideal buyer already owns or appreciates premium watches and wants golf technology integrated into a timepiece they are proud to wear.
